There's a weird overlap between "sentient AI will destroy humanity" and "Covid is a bioweapon".
Both have a kernel of truth, but veer into the fantastical.
- You should try to avoid Covid. Not because it's a bioweapon, but because it spreads through the air, and can cause disability and/or death.
- AI (LLMs) are a net bad. Not because it will acquire sentience, but because it uses vast amounts of energy and water, it relies on stolen material, it facilitates fraud, etc. -
