Die Wasserrahmenrichtlinie, die seit 2000 in der EU dafür sorgt, dass Flüsse, Seen und Grundwasser geschützt und sauber gehalten werden, ist in Gefahr. Unter dem Vorwand von „Vereinfachung“ sollen Umweltstandards abgeschwächt werden: Vor allem im Interesse einzelner Industrien.
Die EU-Kommission fragt aktuell in einer öffentlichen Konsultation nach Meinungen der EU-Bürger:innen zur Wasserpolitik.

Die oder kurz ist eigentlich schon gescheitert. Ich habe vor einiger Zeit (muss mindestens 12 Jahre her sein) im Hamburger Rathaus dazu diskutiert. Die Ziele der Richtlinie wurden allenfalls angestrebt, aber die Politik hat völlig versagt, deren Umsetzung zu unterstützen. Schon damals gab es auf kommunaler Ebene (eben dort, wo diejenigen sitzen, die es richten sollten) nicht genug Bauherren, Genehmigende, Planer und ausführende, geschweige denn Haushaltsmittel.
Die meisten (Bürgerinnen und Bürger) haben noch gar nicht verstanden, was diese Richtlinie bedeutet und warum das Versagen letztendlich persönliche, gesundheitliche Konsequenzen hat.
