Diagnosis acts to re-situate the problem away from the societal factors that cause it and onto the person who suffers from it, putting the onus on them to deal with. And usually, pressuring the person to change themself to fit the system, rather than changing the system to fit them.

This tends to happen whether or not diagnosis is well-intended. And whether this is formal medicalised diagnosis, or any other system of attaching problem labels to individuals.

There's a reason capitalist systems are really keen on handing out diagnoses.

Taxation is only theft when that money is used to help people. Then the people being taxed feel worse knowing that someone else just benefited from their tax dollars because they think everything is a zero-sum game. If it's used for violence and brutality, then the people being taxed can still feel like they're getting ahead.

I'd say probably 90% of anxiety and depression cases are situational. There are people like me who have actual mental issues, so SSRIs are a perfectly valid solution, but I feel like most people don't need them, and the solution is to fix the economy, not drug people up. But of course the former solution doesn't benefit the pharmaceutical industry as much as the latter.
