Yes, free software means that anyone can do what they like with it, but I don't think that it has to mean that you have to actively enable uses that are "not aligned with your mission". Not even if you get money for it, and not even if other uses benefit from it too.

Taking resources away from bad organizations is a good thing. If the only thing the US MIC gets from Blender is "legitimacy", I'm fine with that. We can reassess if/when the US MIC's legitimacy is less universal.
