So Philips Hue just flat out lied. I can no longer manage the lights in my house using the Hue app. The new terms are over 12k words of legalese, which clearly no reasonable person is actually reading. The new terms remove the support for Local-only operation which is the whole reason I bought into Hue lights in the first place. Support's response is basically "Yep, we've fucked you".

@monkee I'm glad that someone find it useful. Yes it is an pretty well made app, without clutter, bloat and such things. It does the work as it should. And additionally has lots of nice features. For example you can use it with the hardware which isn't "original". I once used pcb from the broken Phillips bulb as a simple driver for my homemade Edison bulbs based kitchen lamp. And surprisingly it worked. I was able to dim/undim all bulbs in the lamp with the app due to the correct pcb id

@monkee 1/n Seriously.. I didn't even think about connecting it to any app at the first place. I just wanted a part that allows me to turn on and off those bulbs, which I couldn't find in local electronic stores. My husband once asked if I could use something from the recycling bin. I went, looked around, and sure enough, I managed to use a circuit board from an old light bulb. The lamp worked traditionally, manually for several years. I didn't needed any smart things at home at all.

@monkee 2/n And one day I was browsing for something trough F-Droid and the app pop up in front of my eyes. Just out of curiosity, I started playing around with it. I clicked something, and a light bulb appeared there in the menu. I tapped on it, and my lamp over the kitchen table turned on. My jaw drop was pretty priceless, like my hubby said later to me. I totally forgot that I once connected the pcb to our router to check something by the lamp building time and I didn't disconnect it. 🤣😂

@MartinaNeumayer Reusing and hacking together recycled stuff is the way to go. I wish more would do that.

Accidentally discovering functions you did not plan for is the cherry on top. 😂
