I'm pretty sure I didn't get an offer because I said the fintech place I was interviewing at should have more scrutiny of the AI code because they were fintech and that would slow down the AI pace a little.
The guy tried to hide his sigh but I saw it and knew that was not what he wanted to hear

@merospit @GossiTheDog you gotta wonder, haven't you, whether it'll take longer for the ai bubble to pop than to find a new job
@ASprinkleofSage @merospit @GossiTheDog
I'm looking for a job so hopefully the bubble pops soon

@GossiTheDog LinkedIn is horrible for the job search now. I think the tides have turned and not doing any applications directly through it is your best bet.
Going human to human gets you a lot further - feels awkward maybe but emailing old colleagues and friends and asking if they have any leads is well worth doing. Also applying to places where it's via emailing a CV/résumé to a human being.
Finding the jobs is harder without a search engine though ofc...

@GossiTheDog gather your tools, there is plenty that needs fixing. Simplify simplify simplify, stop feeding the machine that’s ending us #anthropocene

@GossiTheDog In 5 years, you will realize that AI has changed the whole world economy. Almost as much as NFTs have.

So I am an actual bonafide reverse engineer that spoke assembler as my first language ... but I am now using an LLM with an MCP towards Ghidra to reverse engineer a lot (and I mean _a lot_) quicker than if I were to do it all manually as before.
That's what I mean with using tools as tools when they're good at what they do. Fanatical anti-AI sentiments that ignore actual usefulness is just weird.
@troed @vampirdaddy @GossiTheDog you're an expert in assembly/RE and you use an LLM to help you. Nothing wrong with that.
However businesses think they can hire someone with no experience who "knows Claude" and do just as well. Of course they can't, but that doesn't stop businesses from trying. This is destroying people's livelihoods, so you can see why people are a little upset.

@GossiTheDog some guy at my wife’s office was gunning for a promotion, so he falsified some presentations on what AI could do to help his job, claiming it could do all of it. He got his whole department (including himself) gutted and offshored “with AI assistance”. AI and the offshore workers can’t do the actual work, so it’s increased everyone else’s workload significantly. But it hasn’t completely stopped everything in its tracks, so the investors patted themselves on the back, gave themselves a bonus, and are planning even more layoffs.
Last she saw of him on LinkedIn, he was making those fucking LI posts about AI still with a “looking for work” badge. -

@GossiTheDog I'm keeping an eye on my company. I hold these people in high regard and hope they know better.
Even if I did want to leave though, like you said - everywhere else is worse right now.

@GossiTheDog @soatok in the US anyway I think AI, war, and detainment infra are the only things not in a pretty obvious undeclared recession
-
@GossiTheDog How long can the reinsurance of AI loans last before the bubble pops and the knowledgeable are a scarce resource again?
-
@rrb @GossiTheDog Er... I am not sure if you mean "Not at all", "Temporarily through fraud", or "By destroying the livelihoods of those who bought in"
@Epic_Null @GossiTheDog same VCs with the same grift
