At this point, I think the only legitimate use of machine learning is in the detection of AI/LLM generated content, so the user can avoid it like the plague of locusts it is.

Machine learning _could_ have been a useful tech, and there are places using it to automate tasks no human would ever want to do manually. But those are the exception, not the rule anymore. The vast majority of AI/LLM is used to generate clickbait. AI slop as they call it, and a significant percentage of the Internet is now covered in it. We need tools to detect and evade it, and I think ML could be used to do this. But all other ML efforts at this point are effectively tainted. I firmly believe it is time to go all Twelve Colonies of Kobol on this shit; destroy it all, and ban any and all development.
As it stands AI/LLM is apparently the future, and the future fucking sucks.
