LB: remembered that I'm giving away advertising space for free PURELY BECAUSE THE WORST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WANT TO CHARGE LOADS OF MONEY FOR IT, please give me your 468x60 pixel non-animated banner for your hobby website or small (small!) business.

I've been running these ads on my website for a couple of years and not one single person has ever complained about them, my players love them, they talk about them, they like seeing cool indie websites and comics and blogs and furry characters and weird old videogame stuff, they say "I never click ads BUT" about these ads, your website is definitely good enough to be in the stack

People are so used to every single ad they see being annoying and shit that when they see an ad that's actually good, they go HOLY SHIT WHAT'S THAT
Know what else? I serve my ads at the BOTTOM OF THE PAGE. So that people see them when they've already read the page and they're ready to go do something else.
(it's on the special New Day page and nowhere else, players see it maybe a couple times a day, it's a kinda transitional page when stamina and resources get refilled and it's either the first thing players see in a session or it's a reminder that they've been playing a while and they might wanna do something else, transitional pages like these are the IDEAL places for ads and links and webrings, if you're a webcomic think in between chapters or when the reader's caught up, if you're a blog think between the article and the comments)
Ads that pop up and COVER WHAT YOU'RE READING aren't actually ads, they're scams, nobody clicks on them except by accident while trying to find the fuck-off button, their entire purpose is to take money outta the pocket of the sucker who's trying to sell something and put it in the pocket of the advertising company and give a tiny tiny slice to the spam site running the popup, it's not an ad because it can't advertise anything effectively, it can't advertise anything effectively because it's not in an advert-conducive context, you need to catch people at the moment when they're Done and are looking for Something Else, and to put an ad in the middle of your Thing is to say "My Thing is so shit that people can get distracted away from it by an ad and you know what, I'm happy to let that happen," put the ad at the bottom of the page ffs aaaaaarghhhh

this is why people click on my fucking ads, I put them in the right place on the webpage and people actually like them and everybody else does it wrooooooong
I know google says put them at the top or the middle or whatever but google ads are shit and everybody hates them and they don't know what they're talking about, they're a multi-billion-dollar corporation and they've destroyed web advertising, listen to the pinball machine repairman instead

Up to a hundred and one now, thankyouthankyouthankyou, if you want to see a riot of colour from When The Internet Was Fun then you can see all the ads in one long list at https://www.improbableisland.com/hobbysites.php?op=showall and most of those websites are from the fun side of Fedi, if you have a website then you gotta add yours in
