Reading 'Empire of AI' by Karen Hao.
2 things stand out in the first 3 chapters alone:
1) From #OpenAIs new 2018 for-profit charter this definition of #AGI: "highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work"
2) From Karen's interview that same year OpenAIs reasoning for wanting to build AGI: "We think it can help solve complex problems that are just out of reach of humans" - like climate change and health care.

The first is crazy silly. I mean why limit this to 'economically valuable' work? That just says all it could possibly say about their limited mindset. It's ridiculous.
The second is actually more silly still, because they say they need AGI (which does not yet exist) because of how inhumane the health care system is organized in the US.
A quote: "Look at how important health care is in the US, as a political issue these days. How do we actually get better treatment for people? At lower cost?"

To which I would answer: Just make it free for all by implementing a human-centered health care system that allows everyone access to health care, similar to what Europe has already done. Duh.
But no, they think they need to build something (at great cost to the planet) that has never been build simply to solve a problem that is almost solved elsewhere on this planet right fucking now.
How these men are considered geniuses is beyond me. Genius grifters perhaps. -

They have somehow developed a view of themselves as people who can help humanity solve highly complex problems, but to do so they do not turn to solutions that are already available and sustainable, they only see one rather inefficient solution to all problems: they must accumulate more resources and build more data centers that need more water.
I can't even.
