@jacksonmolloy
Hello, and welcome.
Pretty new here myself, also recommended.
You'll like it... it's a nice place to be.

@jacksonmolloy
What type of writing do you do?@JessMahler I have written fiction, poetry, and music. Right now I'm trying to write a science fiction novel. The only genre I don't think I'd write is horror.

Mastodon was recommended by a friend, so still figuring all this out. I'm a young writer trying to learn my craft by writing in public. Learn by doing, right?

@jacksonmolloy howdy!
The local-to-us Henry Miller Memorial Library has some sort of program where they let a young writer live on site for a few months and work in the library. We've met a few up and coming writers that way recently.
@douglasvb Writing in a library on the California coast sounds amazing.

@jacksonmolloy
William ZinsserZinsser’s clear, professional writing on the craft of writing has my recommendation.
-
tip: always click on your own #hashtags — you will either find new friends, or be lonelier than ever

#introduction@jacksonmolloy Welcome! Check out @dilmandila who openly shares his filmmaking process and works on sci-fi. There’s a lovely community of encouragement for makers here.

@jacksonmolloy @futurebird If you ever used X, Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, Google+, Micro.blog then you’ll figure it out quickly.
@Doomscroll @futurebird I have never used any social media, so this is a big step for me.

@jacksonmolloy Hi, young writer. I'm an old writer. Welcome!
@ErikBuchanan Hi old writer! I hope to join your gang in time. (Ha!)

@jacksonmolloy @futurebird Amazed you have never used social media. Welcome! Be wary.
What are you looking to get out of the experience?
Myself, I follow first, speak later. I treat timelines as sensors, not audiences. I choose instances like jurisdictions. I follow people, not topics. I am unsuccessful at this, but I strive to post less than I think is necessary. I avoid consensus language. I never optimize for engagement. I expect misinterpretation. Most importantly, I remember why I'm here.

@Doomscroll @futurebird I think to connect to writers and readers, as well as expanding my horizons a bit.
