I just installed Windows 10 Home on a device. I never realized how crappy #Windows has become in my opinion.

My first mistake was connecting it to the internet in the setup wizard, as it then tried to force me to create and sign into a #Microsoft account. I then researched this, but none of the #Win11 tricks worked on #Win10.

I managed to disconnect from the WLAN again by opening the command line (Shift + F10) and typing "netsh wlan disconnect". Afterwards I could create an offline account.

@zstg I mean, everyone should use whatever OS they like.

But I think that people expect more from #Linux than they do from #Windows. The smallest issue on Linux is immediately a dealbraker and means that it isn't ready for the mainstream, whereas everything that goes wrong on Windows is just normal and to be expected.

As someone who hasn't used Windows on any PC at home for more than a decade, I am probably more sensitive to the Windows issues and less to the ones Linux, as I'm used to them.

@fosstastic @zstg The expectation is set by microsoft and apple. they make choices for you, integrate with certain ecosystems, and generally make your user experience more friendly by removing choice. Linux gives you a million ways to do anything. and half of them will hang you. Linux takes a different approach and it's not for everyone. All things being equal i prefer a linux desktop. but some apps just aren't there. It's light years better than it was though!

That was true 20 years ago, but macOS and Windows today are not at all friendly.
