@monkee @atomicpoet Right, and the Desktop is also quite usable once you plug in a monitor, keyboard and mouse. But it's not something the average Steam Deck user will want to use to write a document or use a CAD package. With the Steam Machine, the target is plugging it to a TV, so the same holds: I could write emails from my TV but that's something I don't want to do.

My view is they just want to avoid their reliance on Windows, and Linux is the key for that. Gaben was really scared by Windows 8 integrating a store and that snowball takes us to these shiny hardware products running Linux. But I don't see them expanding to productivity in the near future. Maybe in a decade?
